Gregory Partain has performed recitals, concertos, and chamber music throughout the U.S., as well as in Germany, Poland, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Russia, and Greece. Recent solo projects include his appearance as the Kentucky Music Teachers Association convention artist (2017) and Beethoven’s Odyssey—a lecture-recital series comprising 22 sonatas, performed in whole or in part in Lexington, Portland OR, Boston, and other locations. As KMTA-MTNA Commissioned Composer (2005), Partain wrote Requiem for a cappella choir, later expanded to ten movements with orchestra and performed by 200 musicians at Lexington’s Singletary Center. This February, he released his third compact disc recording, “Intimations of the Immortal Beloved,” a collaboration with tenor Daniel Weeks. The album includes vocal music by Beethoven, solo piano music by Robert Schumann, and Partain’s original song cycle “Come to the Garden in Spring,” inspired by love poetry of Rumi. Dr. Partain received his B.M. degree in Piano Performance from the U. of Washington, and Masters and Doctoral degrees from The University of Texas at Austin. He has taught at Transylvania University since 1991 and currently chairs the Music Program.
