Ray Beam: A Retrospective

Sponsored by The City of Camargo

Born in Mt. Sterling on September 14, 1938, Ray Beam was a lifelong resident of Camargo and a proud graduate of Camargo High School. He went on to earn both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Morehead State University before dedicating his career to the Montgomery County Schools as a teacher and counselor.

Ray’s faith was central to his life. At Camargo Church of God, he taught Sunday School, led youth, and served on many boards. He was also a talented artist, known for his award-winning oils and watercolors that hang in businesses and homes across the community. He shared his passion through the Gate City Fine Arts Guild, weekly classes at the Gateway Regional Arts Center, and a decade of teaching at Hillcrest Home for Boys.

Beyond his work and art, Ray loved the beach, lighthouses, and collecting Santa Clauses. Most of all, he treasured his family—his wife of 57 years, Becky, his son Greg and daughter-in-law Sherri, his grandsons Jeremy and Jonathan with their wives Sara and Alisha, and his great-granddaughter Harper Jade, his “June Bug.”

Ray’s life was one of faith, service, creativity, and deep love for his family and community.
